Depicted are three owls, aka kings. They are kings of the night. Each owl wears a leafy crown with small orange berries in them. As is typical with barn owls, these owls eyes are very dark and big, and better to see you, my dear. They have the capacity to see just about anything in the dark, even the nefarious doings of others. And they are watchful.
For my own interpretation of symbolism, my father represents the owl. As these owls have heart-shaped heads, which most barn owls do, it would also represent my father whose heart was always in present, and yes, largely in his thoughts (i.e. head-space). He showed compassion for those he loved. The owl as able to decipher what is dark and hidden also represents my father. My father as wi...
I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece. I have shown my work in galleries and through juried shows at art centers and museums. Some notables include The Delaware Art Museum, Haverford Center of the Arts,...

As a fellow symbolist myself, I really appreciate this painting and its meanings Lise. It inspires me to create more such things in memory of my own lost ones. Beautiful work. And as always, I love those blues and golds.
Lise Winne replied:
A lot of the time I do a painting and then look up the symbolism later, but this time I knew what I was doing. Thank you. Always sweet to get your comments.
