Description
Featured is a landscape at night with the stars out with three white butterflies in the empty spaces where a flowering plant grows pink, yellow and white flowers. The border is also heavily floral with tiny white blossoms, it separates the scene with the white butterflies from a darker night. The vines with the little white flowers also create an arch.
This piece is part of a series of paintings I am producing of white butterflies.
This piece is dedicated to Robert Winne (my father), Sally Bouton, and Albert Bigelow. Thoughts of Dennis Kallimanis and William Foltin also occurred during the making of this piece
SYMBOLISM:
* white butterflies: souls of the deceased, guidance, transformation, powerful change, finding ones own free spirit, taking a leap of faith
* vines: traditions
* pink, yellow and white flowers: honesty, purity, innocence, the spreading joy and happiness, the ability to convey gentility and grace
* tiny white flowers: honesty, purity, innocence
* light purple night sky: magic, the ability to uncover secrets and truth
* dark night sky: the unconscious, the unrevealed, can mean a dark period
* illumination in the grass, sky and landscape: enlightenment about certain connections and foundations, with more to be discovered via the darker parts
* vines with swirls: tradition, patterns, change of life, introspection
* arch: walking into a new phase of life and giving up on the old phase, expansiveness, making a decision
* orange looking soil: soil that has iron in it, typically found in the southern USA, thus looking south for inspiration
To put it all together, the butterflies are figures of guidance (often the deceased), leading to another kind of life that is trans-formative and enlightening. The archway which invites you into an illuminating landscape (period of your life) separates a darker more unconscious part of your life from a more enlightened part of your life. The whole picture represents transformation, enlightenment and a big change.
For me, I was inspired to make these paintings from a dream I had where many white butterflies were both flying around me, and clustered together on light green plants, in a wooded garden with vines and white flowers.
The original is for sale at the time of this writing. Please contact me to see if it is still unsold if you are interested in purchasing it.
