A lot of the pieces in my shop are meant for home decor: mixing and matching with duvets, pillows, towels, blankets, tapestries, shower curtains and prints. I list some sample colors below in case you might want solid colored matching pillows or other items.
For this piece, I chose two colors that are almost opposites on the color wheel. The rust color and the turquoise do show up together in a lot of decor and art work. All of the foliage conjures up late fall, with its brown shriveled up leaves, a few yellow leaves turning brown too, and butterflies that resemble moths. Everything is winding down, and yet the turquoise background conjures up warmer climes and the tropics, so there is a dichotomy here.
Turquoise represents in symbolic terms grounding and intuition. It is said to have both a calming effect in addition to an energizing effect. It is also said to inspire loyalty.
Rust (light brown) represents, in symbolic terms, steadfastness, dependability, wholesomeness and stability. Like turquoise, it is also a grounding color. When there is a bit of yellow added, as in the heart shaped leaves, it adds a little cheer and vivacity. And in this case, I think it helps the piece from becoming too two-toned.
For mix and matching here are some color swatches:
* turquoise: #208f9f
* lighter turquoise from the middle: #2ab0bc
* darker turquoise from the top: #1d8391
* rust from the border: #cc7a31
* lighter rust: #e7a551
* darker rust: #bd6315
* yellow leaves: #ffd074
* the white is pure white
