This is a tapestry design, but I have made it available as prints, and products including pillows, totes, shower curtains, mugs, blankets, greeting cards and others.
This design features a butterfly surrounded by flowers, thorns and weeds. It is reminiscent of Renaissance tapestry design, as well as Victorian design. It is rich in textures and intricacies.
This design originally started out as a painting, but I have digitally enhanced it so that it can have the rich colors of a tapestry.
Butterflies have rich symbolism and omens including metamorphosis, deep change, hope, unburdening, a lightness of being. The millefleurs serve as a symbol of abundance, richness, and a heightened awareness of the gifts of nature.
I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece.
